Liverpool-born Mark McGann joins the cast of The Good Ship Murder series 2 as aging rocker Derek Dawes.

He's been on our screens ever since 1983, when he played Simon in the TV drama Studio - a series set in the Headland recording studio, where a fading superstar attempts to recover his health and career. So he's come full circle!

Mark is perhaps best known for playing Marcus Bannerman in the Susan Hampshire period drama The Grand, between 1997 and 1998.

Other notable roles include Conor Phelan in The Hanging Gale (read more below), Det. C.J. Brady in Yellowthread Street, Gary Halliwell in The Manageress, and Mad Dog in Scully.

He hasn't been on TV since 2021, when he played Jon Cummins in Stephen. The hard-hitting drama followed the Lawrence family in their quest for justice 18 years after the death of Stephen Lawrence.

Mark has also appeared in numerous theatre productions, including Blood Brothers, An Inspector Calls, and On the Ledge.

Does Mark McGann have famous brothers?

Mark, 63, is part of the famous McGann family, comprising of the four brothers Joe McGann, Paul McGann, and Stephen McGann.

Mark is the second youngest sibling, after Call the Midwife actor Stephen McGann, who is 62.

Meanwhile, Hollyoaks actor Joe McGann is the oldest at 66, while former Doctor Who Paul McGann is 65.

All of the McGann brothers appeared in the 1995 TV series The Hanging Gale, playing a family. The four-parter followed the four brothers of the Phelan family as they battled to save their farm and their family from the ravages of the Irish Potato Famine in 1846.

The McGann brothers also have a sister called Clare who is not in the pubic eye.
