Infamously, the Jilly Cooper character was "inspired" by Queen Camilla's ex-husband, Andrew Parker-Bowles.

If you haven't heard of actor Alex yet, that will change as he's bound to become your next TV crush.

Author Jilly Cooper, 87, who acts as executive producer on the Disney+ series said: "The minute we met with Alex we knew he'd perfectly embody my all-time hero, the iconic, racy, ruthless, and devastatingly handsome, Rupert Campbell-Black. Viewers are in for a treat!"

He also portrayed Vicious in the TV series Cowboy Bebop, Metatron in His Dark Materials, Felix Nash in Bonkers, and Rick in Everything Now.

Miranda fans might remember from one episode in which he played Edmund Dettori in 2009.

Who did Alex Hassell play in The Boys?

Southend-on-Sea actor Alex Hassell portrayed Translucent in series 1 of The Boys - a total of three episodes in 2019.

Translucent is The Seven's invisible superhero, thanks to his carbon metamaterial skin that bends light and makes him bulletproof. A master of stealth, he can sneak anywhere and give bad guys the surprise of a lifetime.

In the show, Translucent is an invisible Supe. Super-hunter Frenchy (Tomer Capone) inserts a C-4 explosive inside Translucent, who begs for his life.

Hughie eventually detonates the bomb, killing Translucent.

The Boys series 1 to 4 are currently available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, although Alex Hassell is only in series 1.

Was Alex Hassell in The Miniaturist?

In 2017, Alex appeared in arguably his first major television role. He played Johannes Brandt in the BBC adaptation of Jessie Burton's The Miniaturist. Alex starred alongside Anya Taylor-Joy, Romola Garai, and Paapa Essiedu.

Johannes was a 17th-century Dutch merchant who gave his new bride Petronella Oortman an exact replica of her new home as a wedding gift.

From there, the plot centred around Nella and this cabinet house, which she furnished in detail with gifts from the miniaturist, an elusive, and seemingly omniscient, craftswoman.

The Miniaturist is currently available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV+.

What else has Rupert-Campbell Black star Alex Hassell been in?

The versatile actor also played Vicious in Netflix's Cowboy Bebop in 2021 (an adaptation of the anime of the same name). The 10-episode series introduced a ragtag crew of bounty hunters, who chased down the galaxy's most dangerous criminals.

Alex's character Vicious is the main antagonist of Cowboy Bebop. And he couldn't look less like his Rivals alter-ego, wearing a white blonde wig and wielding a weapon with intent to kill (not seduce).

In the series, Alex shared the screen with his real life actress wife Emma King. She played Dr Godard in episode 8.

The series is currently available to watch on Netflix.

Who did Alex Hassell play in His Dark Materials?

Alex portrayed Metatron in the final season of the BBC/HBO fantasy series His Dark Materials.

Metatron was an angel, formerly known as Enoch when he was a human. He became more powerful than the Authority and seized control of the Kingdom of Heaven. He was eventually killed by Lord Asriel and Marisa Coulter as they dragged him into the Abyss.

His Dark Materials series 1 to 3 are currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
