Will there be a Monster series 3 on Netflix?
Monster has been confirmed for another series. Production on series 3 begins next month (October 2024).
Co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed the news at the launch of series 2 in Los Angeles.
Although, Ryan didn't reveal anything else about the project, he DID confirm that British actor Charlie Hunnam, 44, would be the lead actor.
Charlie will portray notorious serial killer Ed Gein.
Who plays Ed Gein in Monsters series 3 on Netflix?
The actor is known for his breakthrough role as Nathan Maloney in Queer as Folk in 1999.
He swapped his home town of Newcastle for the US when he won the role of Jackson 'Jax' Teller in seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy.
More recently, he's played Lin Ford in the Apple TV+ adaptation of the bestselling novel Shantaram. His films include The Gentlemen, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and Cold Mountain.
Who is Ed Gein? What did he do?
Ed Gein, the subject of Monster series 3, was an American serial killer, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul.
He committed his crimes around his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin. Authorities discovered that he had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and "fashioned keepsakes from their bones and skin".
He also confessed to killing two women. At first, Ed was found unfit to stand trial and placed in a mental health facility. However, by 1968, he was judged competent to stand trial.
A court found him guilty of the murder of hardware store owner Bernice Worden. He was found legally insane and remanded to a psychiatric institution, where he died in 1984, aged 77.
Was Ed Gein the inspiration for Silence of the Lambs?
Before he was captured and after the death of his mother, Ed Gein had began to create a "woman suit". He wished to "become his mother - to literally crawl into her skin".
He subsequently became the inspiration for several fictional serial killers, most notably Norman Bates in Psycho, Leatherface in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs.
How many Monster series are there?
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story first streamed in 2022. It became a huge hit, and received an Emmy and BAFTA Award. It dramatised the crimes of Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster Jeffrey Dahmer, a serial killer who often ate his victims. It is still available to watch on Netflix. That series still ranks as the third-most-watched English-language Netflix original of all time.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story streams from Thursday, September 19, 2024, also on Netflix. The story focuses on two brothers, who shot their parents dead. However, who are the Monsters? The killers, or the killed?
