Death in Paradise fans may feel like committing a crime themselves this week, when they discover that the series 14 finale has been pulled from the schedules - so why isn't it on and when can you watch episode eight?

The latest season of the detective drama has been hurtling towards a pretty important reveal - namely, whether Commissioner Selwyn Patterson will be forced to leave his job on Saint Marie after 51 years.

But viewers hoping to tune in this week for the expected final instalment will be disappointed. Here's everything we know about why Death in Paradise episode 8 has been delayed, why it's not on tonight, and when you can watch it.

Why isn't Death in Paradise on this week?

Death in Paradise series 14 has just one episode left, but fans will have to wait for it... The season finale was due to air on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 9pm as usual, but has been postponed for one week.

That's because the annual Comic Relief is taking up the BBC One schedules from 7pm to 10pm. Of course, the 2025 "funny for money" charity fundraiser is a once a year event, so there's no better excuse to push Death in Paradise back a week.

This year, Davina McCall, Joel Dommett, Alison Hammond, Jonathan Ross, Alesha Dixon, Tom Allen, and AJ Odudu host the event from MediaCityUK in Salford.

Highlights include Billy Monger's one-day endurance Ironman Challenge in Hawaii, Jamie Laing's 150-mile plus run from London to Salford, and Sugababes' first performance on the Red Nose Day stage since 2007.

When is Death in Paradise next on?

There's a two week gap between Death in Paradise episode 7, which went out on Friday, March 14, and the season finale, which airs on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Of course, fans will know that the penultimate episode was a particularly climactic one. In it, DI Mervin Wilson finally discovered what really happened to his late mum Dorna Bray.

Tragically, she was killed for money. But Merv, being the super detective he is, tracked down her murderer and arrested him.

At the end of episode 7, fans also got a glimpse of the upcoming final episode which revealed a big clue to whether Commissioner Selwyn Patterson is really leaving his job.

In a sneak peak of the season finale, the clip showed Selwyn telling his friends "they've offered me the job back". But that doesn't mean he'll accept... After the way they've treated him, we wouldn't blame him if he told them where to stick the Commissioner badge!

Preview: What happens in the season 14 finale?

In the final episode of Death in Paradise series 14, Mervin is about to fly home, but finds himself at the centre of a murder investigation when a body is discovered in his shack.

As Mervin professes his innocence, the team can't work out how the victim ended up inside a locked building with no sign of forced entry.

The woman's identity remains a mystery until they discover she was volunteering at a local turtle conservation charity, and suspicion falls on her colleagues.

Meanwhile, Selwyn grapples with his most difficult decision yet when he delivers some personal news to Mervin that turns everything on its head.

Of course, as well as Selwyn's fate, what Death in Paradise fans really want to know is if Don Gilet's DI Mervin Wilson will be staying in Saint Marie, or returning to London for good.

Although the actor let the news slip himself earlier this year, when he confirmed he'd be returning to the Caribbean for the 2026 series 15.
