Giverny

Season 1 Episode 17 of 20

The chef heads to the house of the founding father of Impressionism, Claude Monet, in Giverny, where he wastes no time in walking over the famous Japanese bridge to gaze at the water lillies. With his tour of the iconic garden complete, James sets up his mobile kitchen to cook a dish of crab and dulse, inspired by Monet's need to provide large meals for the brood of eight children he had with his second wife. He also takes a peek inside Monet's kitchen, and samples a pike dish served up by local chef Eric Guerin. A trip to a nearby orchard affords James the chance to prepare apple doughnuts, before he returns hope to cook Normandy tart - a local pudding - and an inventive omelette
