The Marlow Murder Club season 2: cast, episodes, release date and guest stars

By Dave Golder | Wed Mar 19 2025

The Marlow Murder Club series 2 is finally here, as the cast reunites for six new episodes.

The cosy crime drama made its debut on UKTV's Drama channel last year with two 90-minute episodes, bringing together three diverse, restless, thrill-seeking women to solve a tricky triple murder that was foxing the cops.

Its cheery mix of mix of quirky characters, warm humour, knotty problem solving and sumptuous settings proved an instant hit.

And now there are more Marlow murders to solve as amateur detective Judith Potts, a crossword setter who mulls over crimes while swimming naked in the Thames, reunites with down-to-earth dog-walker Suzie and bored vicar’s wife Becks, to once again out-fox local cops and find clues they've missed.

Read on for the latest on episodes, cast, guest stars and of course the release date for The Marlow Murder Club season 2.

The Marlow Murder Club series 2 episodes guide and release date

There's more crime in the picturesque Buckinghamshire town to look forward to, with three new cases, each divided up into two hour-long episodes, which will air as double bills on the same night.

Episode one airs at 8pm on Wednesday March 19, with episode two immediately following it at 9pm.

Then episodes three and four will air at 8pm and 9pm on Wednesday, March 26.

The final two episodes' release date is Wednesday April 2, at 8pm and 9pm.

How many Marlow murder mysteries are there?

The show was created by Robert Thorogood, who also created BBC hit Death In Paradise. He adapted last year’s story and the first case of this series from his own best-selling Marlow Murder Club novels, of which there are five.

The new series’ second and third cases, though, are all-new stories, written by Lucia Haynes (Annika, Vera) and Julia Gilbert (Midsomer Murders, Ridley).

What murders are Judith, Suzie and Becks investigating this series?

In the first episode our intrepid team investigates a seemingly impossible murder of a groom crushed to death in a locked room the day before his wedding. It also features a bonkers low-speed chase scene and Judith finding a novel use for her beloved travel sweets.

In the second story they need to solve the case of a man found dead in the middle of a half-empty, due-for-redevelopment cul-de-sac. But who is he? None of the residents still living there – the ones refusing to sell their homes – claim to know him. Meanwhile, Judith makes a discovery about her great aunt.

Story three begins with a fatal accident at the prestigious Marlow sailing club that quickly reveals itself to be something more sinister. Plus, Judith returns to her archaeological roots and finds something unexpected at the dig.

As the official synopsis for season 2 puts it: “Navigating the delicate balance of Marlow society – from local aristocracy to the workers at the local boatyard, the pubs and cafes of the high street to a newly established archaeological dig – Judith, Becks and Suzie dig into all corners of Marlow life as they assist DCI Tanika Malik (Natalie Dew) in her official investigations.”

While DCI Tanika, who also featured in series 1, may value the Marlow Murder Club’s assistance, not all of her team are quite so keen on being outshone by a bunch of amateur meddlers.

Are all the main cast returning for series 2 of The Marlow Murder Club?

All of the main cast are back from series 1 for season 2 of The Marlow Murder Club (although Luna the German Shepherd appears to have been recast).

Samantha Bond (Moneypenny in the Pierce Brosnan James Bond films) plays Judith Potts, a crossword-setting, former globe-trotting archaeologist, who’s inherited a sprawling Thameside property from a dotty great aunt, and lives there alone.

Jo Martin (Holby’s legendary neurosurgeon Max McGerry and Doctor Who’s renegade Doctor) returns as no-nonsense dog-walker and single mum Suzie Harris.

Cara Horgan is Becks Starling, the long-suffering vicar’s wife, with a natural ability to put people at their ease.

Tijan Sarr returns as DC Jason Kennedy

The members of the club are aided and abetted once again by the local police in the form of Natalie Dew as DCI Tanika Malik, Phill Langhorne as DS Brendan Perry, Holly Demspey as DC Alice Hackett, Tijan Sarr as DC Jason Kennedy and Ella Kenion as their boss DCI Vicky Greenly.

Also returning are Niall Costigan as Becks’ husband the Reverend Colin Starling, Sophia Ally as her daughter Chloe Starling and Ethan Quinn as her son Sam Starling.

Meanwhile ’60s screen legend Rita Tushingham (A Taste Of Honey, Doctor Zhivago) is back as local busybody Mrs Eddingham, as is her husband (Ian Barritt).
