What happens in The Madame Blanc Mysteries series 4 episode 6?

Full programme information for Channel 5 reveals: An elegant sign hangs above a swanky old barbershop where Jeremy and Dom enjoy a much-needed hair treatment and pampering. Dom is especially distracted, as he hasn't heard from Jean since the misunderstanding about her relationship with Paul during his visit to Epoustoufflant.

Meanwhile, Jovan, a visitor from a nearby village, finishes his haircut with barber Vinnie. He’s brought his young son, Freddie, and hopes to sell an old, jewelled bird trinket in Ste Victoire, known for its excellent dealers. Jeremy suggests Dom call Jean, the best dealer in town, but Dom awkwardly mentions he hasn’t seen her lately and instead offers one of his business cards.

Later, as they head to dinner, Jovan inspects the trinket, promising to keep it close. Suddenly, he is attacked in an alley by a masked figure, leaving Freddie screaming for help as he watches his father get dragged away.

At the hospital, Dom and Jean have an awkward reunion before she invites him inside. Dom sees Richard walking with Freddie and realises Jovan was the victim of the attack. Dom explains Jovan had been trying to sell rare jewellery.

Back at the pub Gloria is finishing her schnapps when a drunk local hassles one of the barmaids. The man is Otto Moncrief, a local pest to the community. Patrick bars him from the pub and Otto threatens him. Patrick will regret this. Big time!

The next day, Caron and Jean investigate Jovan’s past and the eagle trinket. Could Jovan be involved in a recent jewellery heist? And who attacked him in a bid to steal the piece back?

The Madame Blanc Mysteries series 4 episode 6 guest cast

Jovan is played by Danny Hatchard

It's not a proper Madame Blanc Mysteries episode without at least one soap star popping up - last week three featured! - and this episode it's the turn of Danny Hatchard.

EastEnders fans will know him well as Lee Carter, eldest son of Linda and Mick (the latter played by Danny Dyer, of course).

Danny Hatchard first appeared in the BBC soap in 2014, remaining until 2017.

He had a second stint between 2019 and 2020 and appeared again last year.

Danny - who previously used the name Danny-Boy - also appeared in the 2020 series of Our Girl, as Private Rhett 'Cheese' Charlton - and another BBC drama, Ridley Road, in 2021.

The 31 year old also regularly treads the boards and describes the theatre as the place he feels most at home.

Over the years he's appeared in Oliver Twist, Beautiful Thing and Eyes Closed, Ears Covered, to name but a few.

Now cast in The Madame Blanc Mysteries, Danny plays Jovan, who has travelled from Spain with his son Freddie to try and sell a trinket in Sainte Victoire, having been told it's the place to do good antique deals.

But he's attacked in the street shortly after Dom gives him Jean's business card.

Vinnie is portrayed by Atilla Akinci

Vinnie runs the local barbershop, Boyz, in Sainte Victoire and hosts Jovan and his son shortly before their street attack horror.

Atilla is a German actor but may be recognisable to some British viewers.

Earlier this year, he appeared in ITV thriller Out There, which starred Martin Clunes.

Last year, he had a small role in the film, Paddington in Peru. He was also in the BBC TV series The Famous Five in 2024.

Otto is played by Mat LaRoche

Otto Moncrief is a rather unpleasant local man who makes an enemy of Patrick when he hassles Gloria in the bar. Patrick bars him and is properly rattled when Otto threatens revenge - and delivers it.

Mat LaRoche is fluent in French, which is a bonus for this Gallic cosy crime drama (and regular viewers with a good ear will know not a requirement)! Occasional acting aside, he co-runs successful broadcasting and media production company Chips Films. They were responsible for the genius viral The Killing X Christmas Jumper Day mash-up a few years back - well worth a search if you've not seen it before!

Freddie is portrayed by Anthony Irons

Freddie is horrified when he sees his dad, Jovan, attacked in the street.

The role is Anthony Irons' first acting credit - but he gives a great performance, so watch this space!
