Missing You: Meet the cast of Netflix's latest Harlan Coben thriller
By Dan Seddon | Tue Jan 07 2025Missing You, Netflix's fifth serialised Harlan Coben adaptation after Safe, The Stranger, Stay Close and this year's Fool Me Once, has assembled a typically robust ensemble cast of British stars.
Based on the American author's 2014 suspense thriller of the same name, the show consists of five episodes and premiered in its mouthwatering entirety on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
The story follows detective inspector Kat Donovan, 11 years after her fiancé Josh disappeared. Whilst swiping her way through a dating app, she spots his face, forcing her to retread the mystery of her father's murder and "uncover long-buried secrets from her past".
Here's everything you need to know about the Missing You cast.
Rosalind Eleazar will play lead character Kat Donovan in the Missing You cast
Approaching her ninth year of professional screen work, English-Ghanaian actress Rosalind Eleazar has secured her first-ever lead role on television as protagonist Kat.
After notching up peripheral credits in Holby City and the Operation Yewtree-inspired drama National Treasure in 2016 - the latter starring Robbie Coltrane as rape suspect Paul Finchley - Eleazar played Violet Cross in 16 episodes of the steamy period drama Harlots, headlined by Samantha Morton and Lesley Manville.
Death in Paradise and Armando Iannucci's big-screen retelling of The Personal History of David Copperfield came calling too, but the rising star's biggest part materialised in Apple TV+ sensation Slow Horses.
In this espionage thriller, which adapts Mick Herron's Slough House series of books and has a fifth season due out in 2025, Eleazar portrays flunked-out MI5 agent Louisa Guy, who works under Gary Oldman's greasy spymaster Jackson Lamb.
Richard Armitage boards the Coben gravy train once again as Ellis Stagger
Now a major name in any cast list, Richard Armitage is starring in his fourth Coben thriller for Netflix as Sergeant Ellis Stagger.
Before stepping up to the big leagues, the Leicestershire-born actor made an uncredited appearance in a galaxy far, far away in 1999 as a Naboo fighter pilot in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.
12 years passed between Star Wars and his next Hollywood venture Captain America: The First Avenger, in which Armitage suited up as Nazi villain Heinz Kruger, but his career on the small screen exploded in that time thanks to parts in North & South, Cold Feet, The Vicar of Dibley, Robin Hood and Spooks.
His central performance as dwarven warrior Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy proved to be the life-changing launchpad he was really waiting for though, leading to Alice Through the Looking Glass, Ocean's 8, Hannibal, Berlin Station, Castlevania, Red Eye and countless audiobook recordings.
Ashley Walters is cast as the disappearing fiance in Missing You
The Top Boy actor Ashley Walters has returned as the ex-fiance with a chilling and mysterious backstory in the Missing you cast. He proposed to Kat, but one night when she returned home for dinner he had vanished without a trace. All of his belongings are gone and his phone is disconnected, and Kat tries to move on - until he reappears.
Walters portrayed Dushane Hill in all five seasons of the Netflix hit Top Boy. Although, he didn't just learn the script, he was also an executive produce of the series. The star also featured in the movie Get Rich or Die Tryin' and shows Bulletproof and Hustle.
Aside from his most-known roles as PC Ryan Draper in Cuffs, and Ronnie Pike in Bulletproof, he also has a rap career, known for So Solid Crew as well as performing under the stage name Asher D.
Jessica Plummer is Stacey Embalo in Missing You
Four years after flying the cushy EastEnders nest, Chantelle Atkins star Jessica Plummer is continuing her fine run of TV form in Missing You as Stacey Embalo.
Reality TV fans will recognise the 32-year-old from her 2020 stint in the I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! camp, which was filmed at Gwrych Castle in Wales as opposed to the Australian rainforest because of COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Plummer, who enjoyed a two-year brush with pop music in the girl band Neon Jungle, co-starred in this year's Oscar-nominated short film The After opposite David Oyelowo, prior to portraying Filomena in Netflix's summer-released medieval black-comedy series The Decameron.
Lenny Henry appears as Clint Donovan in the Netflix thriller
Sir Lenworth George Henry, or Lenny Henry, will sprinkle his unique brand of glitter on Coben's murky universe as Clint Donovan.
A successful stand-up comedian in the 1970s and '80s, Henry's arguably greatest contribution to the arts has been the charity telethon Comic Relief, which he co-founded alongside Richard Curtis in 1985 and has amassed more than £1.5 billion in donations.
Publisher of four books, including a pair of autobiographies, the 66-year-old national treasure will also voice a side character in this Christmas' Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl named Mr. Convenience, whilst his previous acting highlights can be seen in BBC's The Syndicate, Broadchurch, Doctor Who, Three Little Birds, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and The Witcher: Blood Origin.
Mary Malone did her own stunts
Mary Malone is a stage actor who already has had her fair share of TV roles. She appeared in an episode of Vera, as well as playing Ruby's friend Trudy in Doctor Who for the 2023 Christmas special.
Mary showed off her singing talent for musical Fangirls where she portrayed an Australian private school girl.
She dived head-first into the Netflix adaptation, telling County & Town House that she performed all her own stunts.
Mary said: "I had an amazing double to support me, but I was really eager to get stuck in with all the stunts myself. I wanted to immerse myself in it completely."
Playing Kat's friend, who is trying to support her as she unravels the mystery in front of her, the pair actually grew close off camera. Mary revealed they were in touch most days and away from the set, with Rosalind (Kat) 'reassuring' her about her part.
Charlie Hamblett dons a detective hat
The Killing Eve star plays a new detective who helps protagonist Kat as she tries to find out what happened to Josh, as well as investigate a missing person's case.
Hamblett was cast as Sebastian on Killing Eve before joining Missing You, and is known for Around the World in 80 Days (Lieutenant Bathurst), Stevie in The Secret Agent and for playing Martin Bundle in the TV mini series Senna.
He also starred in British series Ghosts, The Burning Girls, Boat Story and had a minor role in Netflix's unexpected hit show The Queen's Gambit.
Aside from the small screen, he has completed voice acting work for the Doctor Who podcast series, both in the Ninth and Twelfth Chronicles, as well as the Harvestella video game for the English version.
Steve Pemberton turns up as Titus
Co-creator and star of The League of Gentlemen, Psychoville and Inside No. 9, Steve Pemberton is no stranger to dramatic roles and so he's been cast as Titus in Missing You.
Since kicking off his career in 1995, the Blackburn-born performer has collaborated with an array of heavyweight talent, including Rowan Atkinson in Mr. Bean's Holiday, Woody Allen in Match Point, David Tennant in Blackpool, Sarah Lancashire in Happy Valley, Johnny Vegas in Benidorm, Matt Berry in Toast of London, Jodie Comer in Killing Eve and Robbie Williams in this year's biopic Better Man.
A trilingual, Pemberton was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Huddersfield in 2003, and earlier in 2024 he received an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Central Lancashire.
Oscar Kennedy
Oscar plays Brendan Fells in the crime drama, a concerned son who is hoping Kat can help her find out what happened to his mother.
It's not his first stint on TV, having played Jamie Walsh in Wreck and Luke in Breeders.
Kennedy also portrayed Lee Keegan in School's Out Forever, Liam in Ladhood and Kristaps in Bliss. He's most known for his part as Edward Turner in Hunted. However, he's dabbled in period dramas and classic adaptations as well, playing a young Pip in Great Expectations and Henry Tudor in The White Queen.
Brigid Zengeni
Brigid Zengeni was cast as Kat's mother in Missing You, Odette Donovan. She warns her daughter to avoid going to visit the man who was convicted of killing her father after news he is dying behind bars. But will she listen?
Odette wants the past to stay as the past while Kat is seeking answers.
Brigid is known for playing Rosa in Prosper, Bethel in Bay of Fires and Rosemary in The Artful Dodger TV series. She also portrayed Zoe Banda in The Secrets She Keeps, Anna in Totally Compeltely Fine and Mrs Mulligan in the 2011 series House of Anubis.
Marc Warren is playing the role of Monte Leburne
A regular face on British TV screens since the '90s, Marc Warren adds support to the cast of Missing You as Monte Leburne.
Earning his stripes on the set of The Bill, Casualty, Grange Hill, Heartbeat, Sharpe's Company, A Touch of Frost, Band of Brothers and State of Play, Warren landed a plum job to play conman Danny Blue for four series of Hustle, which featured a new 'mark' every episode for a London crew lead by Adrian Lester's charismatic Mickey Bricks.
As well as memorable spots in Doctor Who, Accused, The Musketeers, Terry Pratchett's The Hogfather, cult police procedural Life on Mars, The Good Wife, Mad Dogs, and the action film Wanted, Warren has recently demonstrated a leading man quality in the ongoing ITV drama Van der Valk - portraying the eponymous Amsterdam detective. Its fourth series is yet to be broadcast.
Lisa Faulkner is Missing You's Dana Fells
Carving out a side hustle as a TV chef for the past decade or so, whilst also marrying MasterChef's John Torode in 2019, actress Lisa Faulkner joins Eleazar, Armitage, Plummer, Henry, Pemberton and Warren in Netflix's five-parter as Dana Fells.
Outside of the kitchen, she initially made waves as Louise Hope in the beloved soap Brookside, which ended back in 2003, before moving onto another series-regular part in Holby City.
Spooks, New Tricks, Death in Paradise and Waterloo Road are notable shows she's briefly been involved with, whilst Faulkner also accumulated 61 appearances as the character Fi Browning in EastEnders seven years ago.
She won Celebrity MasterChef in 2010.
James Nesbitt portrays Calligan in the series
Honoured with gongs at the British Comedy Awards, National Television Awards, and Irish Film & Television Awards - plus nominations for Screen Actors Guild, Satellite and Golden Globe Awards - across his 43-year career, Northern Irish stalwart James Nesbitt OBE is going to crop in Missing You as a guy known as Calligan.
His most prominent TV credits are as Adam Williams in Cold Feet, Tommy Murphy in Murphy's Law, Tom Jackman and Mr Hyde in Jekyll, Tony Hughes in The Missing, and DI Harry Clayton in Stan Lee's Lucky Man, yet the bright lights of filmland are not alien to him.
Nesbitt was directed by Danny Boyle in 2004's Millions; Woody Allen in Match Point a year later; Emilio Estevez in The Way; Ralph Fiennes in Coriolanus, and the one and only Peter Jackson for his Hobbit blockbusters, where he played Bofur the dwarf.
Just last year, he was called up to perform a spoken word piece at King Charles III and Queen Camilla's coronation concert.
Award-winner Samantha Spiro joins the Missing you cast
Double Laurence Olivier Award-winner Samantha Spiro will show up in the forthcoming thriller as nurse Sally Steiner, following her role in the streamer's hit series Sex Education as Maureen Groff.
Fans may remember Spiro as Josie Clark (Lou and Kartina's mum) who cares for her father. She cast opposite Johnny Depp in the Jack the Ripper thriller From Hell in 2001, playing Martha Tabram, one of the women he kills.
Spiro is also known for her role as Barbara Windsor in Cor, Blimey! which followed the relationship between Sid James and the TV icon who met through the Carry On films.
