By Helen Fear | Fri Nov 08 2024Netflix's adaptations of Harlan Coben's books are always hugely entertaining, and the release date of Missing You - the newest series - has finally been confirmed.
Like James Nesbitt's Stay Close, and Michelle Keegan's Fool Me Once, the series has an impressive ensemble cast of famous faces. And the page-turning novel makes a thrilling TV plot.
Here's everything you need to know about Harlan Coben's Missing You, including release date, plot, cast, and location.
What is the plot of Harlan Coben's Missing You on Netflix?
Like Harlan Coben's 2014 book of the same name, Missing you centres around detective Kat Donovan.
Eleven years ago, Kat Donovan's fiancé Josh - the love of her life - disappeared and she's never heard from him since.
Now, swiping profiles on a dating app, she suddenly sees his face and her world is turned upside all over again.
The synopsis reads: "Josh's reappearance will force her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father's murder, and uncover long-buried secrets from her past."
Who is in the cast of Missing You on Netflix?
Harlan Coben’s Missing You has a brilliant cast, led by Rosalind Eleazar as detective Kat Donovan. Slow Horses fans will know her as Louisa Guy, but she's also played Violet Cross in Harlots, and Inspector Carey in The Harrowing.
Richard Armitage will be appearing in his FOURTH Harlan Coben collaboration. He previously starred in Stay Close, The Stranger, and Fool Me Once. He'll be playing Ellis Stagger.
Comic Relief legend Lenny Henry has been cast as Clint Donovan. His non-comedy roles have included Broadchurch, The Sandman, and Three Little Birds, which he also created.
Former EastEnders actress Jessica Plummer will star in Missing You as Stacey Embalo. Benidorm's Steve Pemberton will join her, playing Titus, and Sex Education's Samantha Spiro stars as Nurse Sally Steiner.
Meanwhile, Vera's Paul Kaye will play Monte Leburne, and Unforgotten's Lisa Faulkner stars as Dana Fells. Mary Malone, who played Trudy in a 2023 episode of Doctor Who, will play Aqua.
The Split's Rudi Dharmalingam, Cold Feet's James Nesbitt, Holby City's Jo Martin, Top Boy's Ashley Walters, and EastEnders' Matt Willis also star.
Victoria Asare-Archer wrote the series. She previously worked on 2021's Stay Close. Meanwhile, The Lazarus Project's Sean Spencer is directing.
When is the release date of Harlan Coben series Missing You?
Netflix has confirmed a release date for upcoming Harlan Coben thriller Missing You.
The series is set to arrive on the streaming service on New Year's Day (January 1, 2025).
All episodes will be available to stream then.
How many episodes is Missing You?
Missing You will be five episodes long, much shorter than Harlan Coben adaptations usually are on Netflix.
Each episode will be an hour long. Chatting to Radio Times, writer Harlan Coben said: "It's only five episodes, so you watch it very quickly. The ending is so surprising that I actually watched it and I got it wrong. And I wrote it!
"But it will also really, genuinely move you. You're going to shed a little bit of a tear."
What other Harlan Coben adaptations are available to watch on Netflix?
Missing You follows the success of Harlan Coben's last Netflix series, Fool Me Once, which streamed on the streaming platform from New Year's Day 2024.
The Harlan Coben thrillers currently available to watch on Netflix include Michelle Keegan thriller Fool Me Once, and James Nesbitt's Stay Close.
There's also Safe, and The Stranger. Non-British language adaptations include The Innocent (Spanish), Hold Tight (Polish), Gone for Good (French), and The Woods (Polish).
Missing You filming locations
Like previous Harlan Coben adaptations, the location has been moved from America to England.
While the book was set in New York, the Netflix thriller was filmed in the North West of England, including Manchester, Bolton, and the Wirral Peninsula.
Cast and crew were seen filming in Manchester city centre, as well as Le Mans Crescent and Victoria Square in Bolton.
In the Wirral Peninsula, filming took place in Parkgate.
