Petty crook Billy the Kid is taken in by English farmer John Tunstall and given a job as a ranch hand. However, when Tunstall is murdered by a business rival, Billy and the rest of his 'regulators' set out to avenge his death, leading them into conflict with the law - and marking the start of Billy's notoriety as a gunslinger.
