In 1987, lonely Californian teenager Charlie Watson is traumatised by the death of her father and resentful of her mother Sally's relationship with new boyfriend Ronald. For her 18th-birthday she's given a yellow Volkswagen Beetle, which turns out to be the battle-scarred Autobot Bumblebee.
