When Snooker Ruled the World

A look back at the golden era of snooker, when colourful characters like Dracula lookalike Ray Reardon, bizarrely bespectacled Dennis Taylor and chain-smoking hell-raiser Alex Higgins ruled the green baize. During the 1970s and 1980s the sport was very rarely off the screen, often pulling in viewing figures of nearly 20 million. With Chas and Dave's record Snooker Loopy reaching number six in the charts and BBC series Pot Black a huge ratings hit, the country was hooked on the game. With contributions from a host of players, including Stephen Hendry, Jimmy White and Ronnie O'Sullivan

When Snooker Ruled the World airs on BBC Four at 1:05 AM, Sunday 20 April. (Subtitles.)
