Miriam Margolyes: Almost Australian
Mateship
Season 1 Episode 2 of 3
On the second leg of her journey, Miriam is intrigued by the Australian concept of 'mateship' and how Australia is the only country in the world to enshrine this in its culture. Her first stop is a roadhouse south of Alice Springs, where she meets one of the few women truckers in Australia. She also encounters Aboriginal elders, who set up the Children's Ground to pass Arrernte traditions, songs, dances and stories on to the younger generation. Arriving in Darwin, Miriam encounters a group of transgender Tiwi islanders, who invite her to a drag night
Miriam Margolyes: Almost Australian airs on BBC Two Wales at 9:00 PM, Thursday 16 January. (Subtitles, repeat, audio description.)
