Expedition: Search for the Nile
Season 1 Episode 1 of 2
The first of a two-part documentary in which Ben Fogle and Dwayne Fields follow in the footsteps of the 19th-century explorers who began an obsessive quest through the dark heart of Africa to find the source of the Nile. They begin looking at the journeys of Dr David Livingstone, arguably the most famous of all the explorers, whose early journey is said to have inspired the scramble for Africa. Ben and Dwayne also look at the impact and legacy, both good and bad, that these expeditions had on the continent at a time when slavery was rife and colonisation was rearing its head
Expedition: Search for the Nile airs on Channel 5 +1 at 1:25 AM, Friday 14 February. (Subtitles, repeat.)
