The Oxford detective gains a taste of prison life while investigating the murder of an inmate jailed for a property swindle. The victim's two partners-in-crime are also incarcerated in the same low-security cell block. Morse is determined to find out whether they know anything about the killing, but has to avoid offending the prison authorities while also dealing with a brash subordinate.
