Durham Cathedral

Season 1 Episode 1 of 15

Architectural historian Jonathan Foyle scales Britain's most renowned structures to tell the story of how constructions have changed over a period of 1,000 years, beginning with Durham Cathedral - one of the finest surviving examples of Norman architecture in the UK. He encounters the crumbling millennium-old stone with oyster shells hiding in the mortar, discovers carved stone arches and braves a tightrope nearly 100 feet above the nave. He is aided on his travels by Lucy Creamer, one of the country's top climbers

Climbing Great Buildings airs on BBC Four HD at 7:00 PM, Monday 24 February. (Subtitles, audio description.)
