The events that shaped the fortunes of the royal family during the reign of Elizabeth II. As the 1980s begins, the Queen wakes to find an intruder, tradesman Michael Fagan, in her bedroom. But he's not the only outsider to make an impact. When Prince Charles marries, his new bride Diana is the family's new star, her charisma proving a hit with the public. And she is followed by Sloane ranger Sarah Ferguson, who turns out to be Prince Andrew's new wife. But intruders soon rear their head once more, as Charles goes back to Camilla and Diana falls for her bodyguard.
