An elderly man reads a love story to a woman in a nursing home, from an old notebook full of sentimental scribblings about passionate young couple Allie and Noah, whose fledgling affair in the 1940s is smothered almost before it has begun when Allie's parents do not approve of her partner as he does not fit in with their other wealthy friends.
