Super Mums - Wildlife on One
Super Mums
Season 30
An exploration of the reality of pregnancy, birth and parenthood for animals living in the wild, including the elephant seal mother, which doesn't eat or drink during the four weeks it has to wean a pup. Also under scrutiny are the Californian mouse, whose females use urine to ensure their partners complete chores while they themselves feed their young, and the amaurobious spider, which sacrifices everything for its babies by becoming their first meal. For seahorses, on the other hand, child rearing is left solely to the males, which even give birth to their offspring. Narrated by David Attenborough
Super Mums - Wildlife on One airs on BBC Four HD at 7:00 PM, Wednesday 16 April. (Subtitles.)
