A political struggle between De Gaulle and the Allied forces took place behind the scenes of the latter stages of the conflict. Americans intended to administer France, once fully freed. However for De Gaulle, the only legitimate government was the one he had led from exile since 1943. D-Day marked the start of Second World War liberation efforts. Aided by testimony from survivors, input from renowned historians and colourised archive footage that lends a startling immediacy to events from a lifetime ago, this documentary reveals some lesser-known facts and uncovers intriguing information about the fight against the Nazis
