How tuberculosis ravaged its way into Ireland's cultural landscape. Once killing thousands a year, its very name would terrorise the countryside and tenements of Ireland's cities. Irish people were seen as tubercular and carriers of the illness. The conditions present in Ireland in the late 1800s, conditions such as poverty, overcrowding and starvation, were key factors for the spread of the illness
