As darkness covers Midsomer Stanton during a total eclipse of the sun, Jeremy Harper is killed by a blow to the head with a meteorite. The victim was a leading light in the village - an amateur astronomer who was passionate about preserving Moonstone Ridge, a Bronze Age heritage site housing a 1930s observatory. Barnaby and Jones are called in to investigate, and the duo discover that intrigue, sexual tension and academic rivalry are rife among the local stargazing community.
