Attenborough's Wonder of Song
Attenborough's Wonder of Song
David Attenborough examines seven recordings of animals singing, all documented in his lifetime - including one he recorded himself. The songs are from species as varied as lyrebirds, lemurs and humpback whales, all providing an insight into the way these creatures communicate. The programme also examines new evidence on the purpose of singing, which challenges the long-held belief that it is a mating ritual - it has been theorised that both male and female songbirds sing as part of a survival strategy
Attenborough's Wonder of Song airs on BBC One North West HD at 2:00 PM, Wednesday 18 December. (Subtitles, repeat.)
