Troy is playing in an annual cricket match between Midsomer Worthy and Fletchers Cross when tragedy strikes. The wife of one of the team captains, a wealthy local landowner, is found battered to death with a cricket bat in a quarry. As Barnaby and Troy investigate, they discover no end of people with a grudge against the victim's husband - who may have been complicit in some other suspicious deaths.
