Dan Jones explores the history of York Castle, built on the orders of William the Conqueror and once the regional seat of British government. The castle has also been used as a prison and a royal mint, and in 1308, 25 Knights Templar were jailed there and examined on charges of heresy, idolatry and other crimes. The castle was also where Dick Turpin was held prior to his execution in 1739 and Dan tries to separate fact from fiction regarding the many myths to have developed about the infamous highwayman
