Last of the Right Whales

North Atlantic right whales are dying faster than they can reproduce. With less than 350 left, the whales rarely die of natural causes. Instead they are killed when they collide with boats or become entangled with fishing gear. This documentary looks at the work of activists committed to saving the breed and follows the whale migration from the only known calving grounds in the waters of the southeastern US to the shifting feeding grounds around the Bay of Fundy, Gulf of St Lawrence and New England coast

Last of the Right Whales airs on RTE2 HD at 7:00 PM, Thursday 12 September. (Subtitles, repeat.)
