The Second World War

Season 1 Episode 4 of 4

The actor meets Eastender Babs Clark, who was just eight when the Second World War began. Like so many, Babs depended on the newly built Bethnal Green Tube station as an air raid shelter during the Blitz. It was akin to an underground town, boasting a library, doctor and community hall. However, tragedy struck during one night raid, and her family was lucky to get out alive. The presenter also meets Maisie Lanyon, who was just five years old when the Germans invaded Guernsey
