France finished second in Group D, following up a 1-0 victory against Austria with draws against the Netherlands and Poland, and the fitness issues of talismanic striker Kylian Mbappe haven't helped a side that entered the tournament as one of the favourites. Belgium have been equally below par and progressed from a remarkable Group E, in which all four nations finished level on four points. France beat Belgium in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and have something of a hold over their opponents, whose last victory over them was way back in 1981 in a World Cup qualifier
