Season 1 Episode 2 of 2

The conclusion of a two-part documentary looking back at what it was like living through the mid to late 1970s in Britain. From the red, white and blue street parties of the Silver Jubilee and the explosion of punk, to kids' essential viewing Grange Hill, and the birth of Saturday morning TV with Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, '70s life was a kaleidoscope of colour. Inflation meant the drive to Buy British was in full force, the wearing of seat belts was encouraged though not enforced, Mary Whitehouse went to war with the Permissive Society and the first flush of populist feminism saw women make a stand for their rights

The 1970s: Those Were the Days airs on Channel 5 +1 at 10:00 PM, Friday 13 September. (Subtitles, repeat.)
