The police hold a press conference to appeal for information about Jonjo, and Smilie hopes to take the opportunity to reassure the public that they have nothing to fear and prevent news of the human heart found by the lake from spreading further. However, his plans are disrupted by Blake, who reveals everything and shares his theory that the community is being terrorised by a serial killer. An unexpected discovery is made outside the village hall during a town meeting set up to try and identify the killer
