The involvement of Scottish people in the Cold War, played out in the aftermath of the Second World War. As a young man, Murdo Macdonald from Portnalong in Skye found himself in Japan in the wake of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Lewis men Angus Maclean and Norman Macleod found themselves on the other side of the world as part of programmes to test and develop these destructive weapons. However, it is the announcement of a new rocket testing range on the Isle of Benbecula that brings the impact of the Cold War ever closer to home for islanders
