The journalist meets gangs known as Area Boys as they patrol their neighbourhoods in the Nigerian city of Lagos, clashing with rivals in a bid to keep the peace on the streets. He is taken under the wing of their leader MC, a street youth who is now friends with the most powerful men in the city, and also spends time with the government's paramilitary tasks force, whose ruthless tactics are not that different to those of the gangs
