Andy Murray was in action at the corresponding stage of last year's competition and recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory over David Goffin, while another British player suffered a disappointing loss as Jack Draper was beat 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 by Christopher O'Connell. In the women's competition, former world number one Karolina Pliskova received a wild card to this event, but was eliminated following a first-round defeat to Anna Blinkova
