In May 1998, the historic town of Sarno in southern Italy was ravaged by rain. Eventually the rain-saturated mountain slopes gave way, with torrents of mud travelling at up to 60 kilometres per hour burying dozens of people. Survivors describe the extreme weather conditions that resulted in the deaths of 161 people
