In November 2013, crowds began to gather in Kiev's Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) to protest against the pro-Moscow presidency of Viktor Yanukovych and demand greater integration with Europe. Director Sergei Loznitsa took his camera to capture the unfolding events as hundreds of thousands of people peacefully aired their political desires, chronicling the demonstrators journey from optimistic ebullience through to the violent clashes with police
