George consolidates his new hold over Trenwith, erecting fences around his land and denying commoners passage across his property. When Demelza defies him, she is badly beaten for trespassing. The incident provokes an angry mob to march on Trenwith, and Ross struggles to prevent further violence. Elizabeth reveals that she is pregnant, but begins to fear that George may not be the father of her baby after all. Dwight makes plans to join the navy, and Ross resolves to reunite him with Caroline before it is too late
