The competition kicks off in rural Co Durham at Bowlees Farm Holiday Cottages, where married couple Tony and Viv Smith hope that their tranquil setting, private hot tubs and indoor swimming pool will leave their guests feeling as though they've died and gone to Durham. At first, their guests are bowled over by the views and the facilities but on closer inspection, friends Jane and Rachel find fault with the cleanliness in the kitchen. At dinner, it's revealed that breakfast will be provided by the local farm shop a mile down the road, the only facility that Tony and Viv don't seem to have. Despite the clean plates, married couple Amanda and Howard make their feelings clear on the lack of options.
