The Nile Fleet

Season 1 Episode 3 of 13

In this programme, Cyril Aldred takes a look at the discovery of the oldest surviving ship in the world - the royal ship of Cheops. The well-preserved remains of the vessel were uncovered in 1954, due to road clearing around the Great Pyramid of Gizeh. Cyril explains how its construction proves that a nation built round the Nile had to be one of sailors. First broadcast 16 April 1972

Tutankhamun's Egypt airs on BBC Four at 11:40 PM, Monday 20 January. (Subtitles.)
