Bergen to Flam

Season 8 Episode 6 of 20

Michael Portillo embarks on a Scandinavian railway adventure from the Norwegian port of Bergen to the Danish capital, Copenhagen, a route that includes two of the most famous railways in the world - the Bergen Line and the Flam Railway. In Bergen, Michael investigates how Norway, which has gained great wealth from oil and gas, is today investing in sustainable energy. He also visits a villa built by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Aboard the Flamsbana, one of the steepest standard gauge railways in the world, Michael snakes his way down the mountains to the coast to explore the longest and deepest fjord in Norway

Great Continental Railway Journeys airs on BBC Two Northern Ireland at 6:30 PM, Monday 17 March. (Subtitles, new.)
