RAF squadron leader Roger Bushell masterminded one of the most unbelievable mass escapes from a German prisoner-of-war camp. The so called 'escape-proof' prison was unlike any other, in that it held escapees from other prisons. Surrounded by two walls of barbed wired, crawling with German spies and cell blocks on stilted platforms to make the discovery of tunnels easy, Bushell was determined to get out with over 200 men in the hope of disrupting the German forces on the frontline. Almost all were caught and 50 were executed, but three made their way to freedom
