Part one of two. An archaeologist discovers a set of human remains in the Shetlands, but before it can be proven whether the find is ancient or contemporary, local woman Mima Wilson is shot dead on the same site. The police investigation uncovers a deep division between the victim's family and rich local clan the Haldanes, so members of the latter fall under suspicion - especially when it transpires that one was out shooting on the night of the murder and another lacks a convincing alibi.
