Bradley Riches smiling in front of Emmerdale sign

This morning (March 19) it was announced that Bradley Riches will be joining the cast of Emmerdale as a new regular character. And while little is known about who he will be playing, fans are already blasting the decision.

Bradley is best known for his huge role in the TV series Heartstopper as well as appearing on the most recent series of Celebrity Big Brother. The 23-year-old began filming on the soap this week, with his first scenes set to air in May.

However, the decision to bring another new male character to the village has been questioned by a lot of fans. Especially as we just said goodbye to three huge female characters mere weeks ago.

Bradley Riches joins Emmerdale cast

Emmerdale announced the news on their social media pages, as Bradley posed for a photograph outside in the village. Producer Laura Shaw said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Bradley to the Emmerdale family. Bradley brings a wealth of talent and his warmth, wit and charisma makes him perfect for this new Emmerdale role.

“We have some wonderful stories for him to play and we can’t wait for the audience to see Bradley bring his new character bursting into life on screen.”

But Emmerdale’s new men come weeks after we said goodbye to Suzy, Leyla and Amy – all of which still have very fresh grieving loved ones. So the instant arrival of two new guys hasn’t gone down well with fans.

While many were thrilled at the new cast announcement, some thought the timing was bad. And were annoyed that it was yet another guy.

New castings face backlash

Taking to the comments on the Instagram post, one follower wrote: “I’m sure he is great. But I find it disappointing that three women were killed off for the new characters introduced to be all male…”

Another backed this up, adding: “I agree. Why was it necessary to take them all out like that?”

A third follower penned: “So why are they axing old characters and now bringing new people in? Thought they were cutting back?”

“I have noticed they got rid of three women to bring in more men. How is that fair?” another commented.

Bradley Riches isn’t the only newbie on Emmerdale, as Shebz Miah made his debut on screen as Kammy earlier this week. Kammy is the new bad-boy that brings trouble and excitement to Sarah’s doorstep.

So with two new guys within a few months of each other – immediately after saying goodbye to three huge female characters, fans are not pleased!
