Fans of Emmerdale have branded Joe Tate‘s comeback a failure as the extent of his plan was revealed last night. This came as the soap revealed that Joe has been suffering from kidney disease, and urgently needs an organ transplant if he hopes to survive.

As he sat and schemed with his doctor last night (Monday, March 17), Joe revealed that he had a new donor in mind, after failing to pinch one from Noah. His next plan, he revealed, would involve another blood relative… and once again, he wasn’t going to bother asking first.

This spells bad news for likely candidate Caleb, the only remaining blood Tate in the village. But how will Joe go about getting his kidney?

Joe Tate’s Emmerdale return was a ‘waste of time’ viewers complain

Writing on a Reddit thread in the wake of last night’s episode, fans shared their dismay at how Joe’s story had played out. And many wondered how his once-promising return had managed to go off the rails so spectacularly.

“Did I miss something or did the show completely switch from, ‘Joe’s here for a shady business storyline,’ to ‘Joe’s here for a shady medical storyline.’ What does any of his introduction have to do with desperately needing a kidney before he’s brown bread and why spend so much time playing with Will instead of going for his actual objective?” asked one confused fan.

“This whole storyline is just so ridiculous and a waist [sic] of viewers time,” agreed another.

“It’s such an incredible anti climax. Like, I don’t even care that it’s just about kidney failure, but does it really warrant three months of clandestine talks and secrets?” asked a third.

“A whole lotta nonsense is what it is,” another said.

Caleb to die amid Joe Tate’s plan to take his kidney in Emmerdale?

His plan may be ‘nonsense,’ but Joe is relying on an organ donation to survive. As he told Doctor Crowley last night, Noah may have been a bust, but there’s still another he could harvest.

Logically, this is between two candidates – uncles Caleb and Jamie. With Jamie Tate currently AWOL, this would leave Caleb, who’s well within striking distance for Joe and his dodgy doctor.

And, with a grim flash-forward still to play out, we know Caleb has a date with a hospital bed still to come. Will he be killed as Joe gets the kidney he needs?
