Anthony and Caleb were struggling over the gun when it was fired
*Warning: Emmerdale spoilers follow from the Wednesday January 22 episode, which is available now on ITVX, but has not yet aired on ITV*
Emmerdale spoilers from the ITVX early release episode on Wednesday January 22 have confirmed the outcome of the shooting in the barn. Anthony Fox and Caleb Miligan were last seen locked in a game of Russian Roulette that saw Caleb pointing a gun at his father-in-law’s head.
But viewers did not know who had been shot.

What happened in Emmerdale last night?
Last night (Tuesday January 21), Caleb had tracked down Anthony and driven him to one of Moira’s barns. There he had pulled a gun on his father-in-law and demanded he tell the truth about what he did to Ruby.
Anthony tried to talk his way out of it, claimed Ruby was lying and that as a care home kid, Caleb had no idea how real families worked. But Caleb didn’t buy any of it. He loaded the gun with one bullet and every time Anthony lied or insulted Ruby, Caleb pulled the trigger.
However when Anthony finally confessed – but with no remorse whatsoever, it was revealed the gun was empty. Caleb had just wanted him to feel the same terror Ruby had all those years ago and since.
But then Caleb loaded the gun for real. Anthony played his trump card and revealed Cain and Ruby were sleeping together. In Caleb’s moment of confusion at the revelation, Anthony lunged for the weapon and it went off. The action immediately cut to Cain arriving outside. And that was the ending so we were left wondering who got shot. Was Anthony finally dead?

Emmerdale spoilers confirm outcome of the gunshot
Well, it turns out the answer is no. Anthony managed to escape.
The action picked up as Cain raced into the barn to find Anthony running into the fields and Caleb brandishing a gun.
Neither of them had been hit. The gun had gone off when Anthony tried to grab it off him. Caleb then bent down to pick it up, but Anthony got past him and fled.
Caleb still wanted to go after his father-in-law, but Cain talked him out of it and they headed home, where Caleb was making barbed comments about Cain being the saviour. But he didn’t confront his brother or wife over what he had been told.

New twist at the end of Emmerdale tonight
Although Anthony got away, he only hobbled as far as the depot, where his plan was to contact Steph. But his phone died.
Inside, as he tried to use the office phone, he was confronted by a menacing Aaron Dingle. Aaron had put two and two together and worked everything out. He knows what Anthony is and he is out to punish him.
So what happens next? Will Aaron finish Anthony off?
Ruby Fox-Miligan arrived in Emmerdale an outspoken livewire who rubbed most people up the wrong way. But behind the ballsy exterior lay a devastating secret that had shaped her entire life.
Ruby arrives in Emmerdale
Making her mark as Caleb’s estranged wife, Ruby was first seen hooking up with him on the sofa. This came as Nate Robinson burst in, sure Caleb was having an affair with his wife, Tracy (which he was!)
She immediately got on the wrong side of everyone, speaking her mind and insulting the Dingles. But slowly, over the course of her year in the soap, fans have warmed to Ruby.
Anthony arrives in Emmerdale
It was the arrival of her father that sparked a real interest in Ruby. All we knew was she hadn’t spoken to her parents for over 30 years after they kicked her out for getting pregnant at 16. They had told her to have an abortion, but she chose to keep her baby.
When Anthony returned and tried to make amends, Ruby was visibly terrified of him. No one around her could see it though, they just thought she was really good at holding a grudge.
Ruby was forced to accept Anthony’s presence when her estranged daughter, Steph, made it clear they came as a package.
The truth revealed
But although charming, generous and a kind old man in public, in private, Anthony was manipulating Ruby, blackmailing her and gaslighting her.
Still, Ruby maintained her silence, but it was obvious to all except her family, that something was very wrong.
Then we got a glimpse of her past in a flashback episode when we learned what had happened on Ruby’s 16th birthday. Anthony had raped her. And he had been sexually abusing her since she was 14.
The horror became even more compounded when Ruby did a DNA test and discovered Anthony was Steph’s real father.
Ruby confronts her dad in Emmerdale
Despite being determined to keep her secret, Caleb found the DNA results and threw Ruby out. He believed she’d cheated on him years ago.
However then Chas made him realise the horrible truth.
Meanwhile, Ruby was finally confronting her father. She told him he had raped her and was Steph’s dad.
Anthony has tried to carry on as if it’s all fine and just in Ruby’s head. But now the truth is out, someone is coming for him.
