Emmerdale fans were pretty surprised on Tuesday night (December 10) when baby Ivy, who had seemingly been completely forgotten about appeared on screen again. Well, was heard on screen at least!

Baby Ivy, the child Rhona Goskirk fought so hard and almost sacrificed her marriage to Marlon Dingle for, was heard crying and not only that, Rhona actually went to tend to her! Wonders never cease.

Who is Ivy in Emmerdale?

Last year, Rhona’s ex husband Gus turned up out of the blue to ask if he and his new wife Lucy could use the embryos he and Rhona froze to have a baby. Rhona was shocked as she thought they had been destroyed.

After much thought and heartache, Rhona realised she couldn’t give consent for her biological child to be born and raised by someone else.

However not willing to accept defeat, Gus stole Rhona’s passport and forged her signature to get the embryos. Lucy then fell pregnant and Rhona had no idea until Marlon bumped into them at the hospital. Rhona was devastated and conflicted over what to do.

Sadly when she confronted them both as they tried to flee, Lucy went into premature labour and died during childbirth. Rhona then wanted custody of Ivy herself.

However despite the fact Rhona was the biological mother of the baby, she had no legal rights. A battle followed and Rhona kidnapped Ivy. She was found not guilty in court, but Gus was eventually sent to prison for eight years for fraud.

Rhona and Marlon are now raising the baby together – not that you’d know it as she’s never seen or talked about!

Fans react to Ivy’s reappearance

Last night, Rhona and Marlon were trying to deal with April’s teenage strop when Ivy started crying in the background. Marlon said he would tend to the baby, but Rhona insisted she would go.

Those watching at home had quite the reaction to hearing Ivy and that Rhona and Marlon remembered they had her!

“Is that Ivy I can hear in the background? Have they let her out of the cupboard that her and Esther have been held hostage in?” joked one.

Another added: “Marlon and Rhona have finally returned home and remembered they left Ivy upstairs!”

“Where’s Ivy been? All that fuss Rhona made and she’s hardly seen,” said a third.

A fourth admitted: “I’d completely forgotten about Ivy!”

“There’s Ivy. The invisible baby,” laughed someone else.
