New Year’s Eve in Emmerdale sees five flashforwards. They will tease what is to come, but who is involved? And what do they all mean?

2. The first day is hard for Jacob

As he pursues his medical degree, Jacob starts his first day on student placement at A&E. The soap will air a special standalone episode showing how Jacob struggles when it all goes wrong for him. He is reprimanded, but will it make him question his abilities?

3. Leyla scuppers Jacob’s date

Outside of work, Jacob and Sarah are still flirting. They arrange a lunch date, but Leyla then insists he has lunch with her.

Sarah’s upset when Jacob stands her up, but has Leyla done this on purpose to keep them apart? Jacob soon apologises and the pair arrange another date, but will Leyla step in again?

4. Moira has a hospital appointment

To ring in the New Year, Moira has an appointment at the hospital on January 2. Wanting to keep their celebrations of 2025 low key, Moira and Cain book a quiet lunch just for the two of them on New Year’s Day. But what will the appointment bring?

Desperately unhappy Ruby downs the Champagne like it’s water. Chas is worried about her and wants to get to the bottom of what’s going on. She notices how agitated she is and how heavily she’s drinking. Eventually Ruby breaks her silence, but what exactly will she confess?
