In Emmerdale spoilers for next week, the truth about Ruby and her dad, Anthony, is revealed during a special flashback episode.

Anthony, played by Nicholas Day, recently arrived in the Dales, hot on the heels of granddaughter Steph.

This week, Ruby realises that her dad is telling the truth about his cancer diagnosis. She tries to make her dad feel welcome, but the hostility still remains.

Next week, viewers will get a glimpse into Ruby’s past in a special flashback episode. What happened to her?

Emmerdale spoilers: Anthony confronts Caleb

Anthony’s mood is darkened as he learns about Tracy and Caleb’s affair from Brenda. Viewers will remember that before Ruby’s arrival in January, Caleb embarked on an affair with his nephew’s wife. The affair was exposed to all at Tom and Belle’s wedding when Ruby stood up and announced it to everyone.

Anthony confronts his son-in-law about the affair, but Anthony’s persistent questioning unsettles Ruby.

Meanwhile, optimistic Ruby makes inroads into repairing her relationship with Steph, but allusions to the past from Anthony leave Ruby feeling uneasy again – despite her desire to move forward.

Special flashback episode

In the present day, Steph finds a photo of Ruby on her 16th birthday. Ruby pretends she doesn’t remember that day, but it’s clear something is troubling her.

We then go back to 1992 and the day of Ruby’s 16th birthday. Ruby recalls getting on well with teenage Rob. But soon, the audience will get a glimpse into Ruby’s past… what happened to her?

Steph later tries to bring the family together. Will she be successful?
