Lydia Dingle in Emmerdale has had a tough time of late, but it seems she’s back to her sparky self after her comment to Kim Tate last night.

On Monday (July 22) Lydia discovered exactly what Rose Jackson has been up to and immediately reported back to Kim.

However, Kim didn’t want to act straightaway – something Lydia advised against given what she thought of Rose. She then issued the ultimate put-down, which had fans praising the writing and calling it the ‘best line ever’ in the soap.

Lydia finds out about Rose’s plot in Emmerdale

Viewers know Rose is working with Ruby Fox-Miligan to bring down Kim. And so far the plan seems to be working as Rose has managed to orchestrate Kim moving out of Home Farm and turned the whole family against her.

After Rose attempted to spike Will’s champagne and entrap him, the glasses got mixed up and Dawn drunk the drugged drink (try saying that when you’ve had a few!) Dawn passed out while driving, crashed her car into Ella Forster’s vehicle and now firmly believes Kim spiked her. She thinks Kim was trying to set Rose up, rather than it being the other way round. Never mind that Kim wasn’t anywhere near the glasses when the drinks were poured – or that it was Will who poured and served, Dawn’s mind is made up.

In order to protect Evan, Kim said she would move out to make everyone feel safe. Now Rose is lording it around the manor, having the gall to suggest Will change the locks and that Kim will never be allowed to move back into the house. The millions of pounds stately home that she owns, that is. Okay, Rose, who died and made you Queen?

But Rose soon slipped up on Monday when she bossed Lydia about and then made a phone call to Ruby. Only loyal Lydia had the baby monitor on and listened to every word Rose said. Cocky Rose discussed the plan and said: “Job done,” before asking for a bonus.

Lydia immediately reported to Kim and Kim wanted to sit tight and wait for Rose to trip herself up.

Lydia then said: “Look I don’t want to worry you, and Will has done nothing to encourage her, but the way she looks at him… It’s like she’s a hungry cat and he’s a tin of sardines.”

Fans in hysterics

Emmerdale fans thought Lydia‘s line was priceless and some declared it the ‘best’ ever uttered.

“Still howling over Lydia’s comment to Kim about the way Rose looks at Will – ‘She’s like a hungry cat and he’s a tin of sardines!'” one wrote on social media.

Other immediately agreed: “Me too, one of the best lines ever,” said someone. Another added: “It was brilliant, wasn’t it? Great writing.”

“It was a classic line,” said one more.

A fifth added: “Love Lydia and Kim’s friendship. So genuine and Kim knows that Lydia has no ulterior motive. She just likes her.”

We’re still laughing at the image of Will as a sardine!
