Tom spoke out on Instagram following widespread reports that he has been dropped from The Voice UK. In a furious message, he confirmed the whispers are true.

Tom said ITV had blamed “financial difficulty” for the reason for letting him go.

He wrote: “To be clear, I did not want to leave The Voice as I love the show and really appreciate the audience.

“ITV made this decision – obviously a while ago, and I was just told recently. The reason given is because of a financial difficulty with insurance.

“They now say in the press they wanted to ‘refresh’ the show, and with a new coaching line-up there wouldn’t be a chair for me.”

Tom went on: “They are making a much-reduced role where I would make an appearance but without being actually involved from the start, and I’m not thrilled about that.

“So the only thing I know right now, is that there’s never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who’s still pretty good at his job.”

Olly has since replied directly to Tom in the comments section. The pair worked together on The Voice UK from 2018 to 2023.

He told his former colleague: “Love ya TJ ❤️ I know how much that show means to you mate. Absolute legend and one of the very best to ever sit in that chair.”

Why did Olly Murs leave The Voice UK?

Olly will be able to completely sympathise with Welsh singer Tom. He too was dropped from The Voice UK after a successful run as a coach.

Olly confirmed at the time that it had not been his decision. He said he wasn’t prepared to pretend otherwise.

“I’m gutted,” Olly told The Sun. “I got the call last week to say I won’t be back on the show, and it’s a bit of a shock, to be honest. I didn’t really expect that to come.

“But I don’t want to sit here like other artists might, and shine and gloss this up and say, ‘It was my decision’. I don’t want to do that.”

Fans were disappointed to see Olly leave. They have now shared their feelings again in the wake of Tom’s departure.

Writing under his message to Tom, one fumed: “@ollymurs Gutted when you left and now the legend that is @realsirtomjones. Bad move itv!! Clearly clueless on what the audience wants!!”

Another wrote: “@ollymurs they have got rid of the best people..that’s why the show is going down hill. Need you, Tom and Anne Marie back.”

Others have vowed to switch off, with someone else saying: “Will never watch the voice again, Tom is the reason most people go on the voice! What a massive mistake from ITV!”
