It's so pretty you'll want to move there

Graham Norton‘s new show The Neighbourhood hits screens tonight and it’s not like any reality competition we have seen before – but is it a real village?

Six households will move into six houses in a quaint English village, which has a little cafe and even a village pub.

The houses are all centred around a town square, the streets are cobbled and flowers add a splash of colour everywhere.

There is even a river running through it.

But is the village where The Neighbourhood filmed a real life location? And where exactly is it? Here’s all your questions answered!

The Neighbourhood: Where is it filmed?

Graham opens the first episode by revealing The Neighbourhood’s real location. As he talks, a milkman can be seen whistling as he places several pinks of milk outside a pretty cottage’s front door.

Graham says: “In the heart of the Peak District lies a picture perfect village.”

He then emerges, walking through the square as a lady comes out of the cafe. Graham, clutching a newspaper, says hello to the cafe owner, Kim, as she asks him: “Have they arrived yet?”

A street sign reading KeepYourEnemies Close is shown, as a paper delivery girl cycles through the pedestrianised cobbles.

As Graham warns that “looks can be deceiving”, the contestants will be seen playing football on a perfectly manicured village green.

The households can also be seen chatting in the pub, which has a dart board and pool table. More shots of the houses will be shown, each with gorgeous pastel coloured shutters adorning the windows.

The Neighbourhood is located in Derbyshire in the Peak District and it really is picture perfect. But is it a real village?

Is the village in The Neighbourhood real?

Sadly, fans are unable to visit the village where The Neighbourhood is set. Unfortunately, it is not a real location that is open to the public.

Originally, it was the home of real-life holiday village, visited by tourists. But with extremely clever staging and TV magic, it has been completely transformed.

TVGuide can reveal that the houses are all pre-existing properties that have been dressed and spruced up by the set designers. It is also one of the biggest reality TV rigs ever.

In total, there are almost 200 cameras on site. This makes the filming set-up much bigger than other juggernaughts, such as Love Island and Big Brother. Wow!

‘It’s just gorgeous’

Host Graham Norton was particularly taken aback when he first turned up at the set of The Neighbourhood.

He said: “Arriving in Derbyshire and seeing the set, I’d seen pictures but I didn’t quite understand the scale of it.

“It really is like being on a movie set, except it’s 360 – everywhere you look, it’s real.

“The art department did an extraordinary job of building up that town square where we do the removals, the pub, the cafe, the interiors of the houses. It really took my breath away!”

Graham continues: “It made it even more exciting. I thought – this is serious! We’re making a big show.

“Then add on top of that, what Derbyshire does when the drone goes up and we see the Neighbourhood and the nature and the rest of it, it’s so beautiful, those big driving shots. It’s just gorgeous.”

Hear, hear. We’d be more than happy to move there (minus the 200 cameras!).
